My baby has false starts every night

6 month old false starts

Hi all, looking some advice for my 6.5 month old. She used to be a great sleeper (12 hours at night) but has always been a cat napper!

I’ve recently started tracking her sleep, before we just let her sleep when she was tired, and have noticed she doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of daytime sleep.

For context we follow wake windows and hers looks like this 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.75 but her first two naps are only half an hour, I usually salvage the second 1 to around an hour but she doesn’t seem to be able to sleep for much longer. I put her in her cot awake with her dummy and if she starts to cry give her 2 mins before going back in to put the dummy in. I usually only have to do this once to get her to go to sleep.

She has a bedtime anywhere between 7:00/8:00pm but she’s awake within 15-30 mins of me putting her down and will not resettle unless we hold her and if we transfer her back to the next to me she wakes up screaming. We’ve had to Co sleep and she sleeps completely fine until the next morning. I really don’t want to continue as id like her in her own room soon.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

I think this is the age they start getting separation anxiety. Try wearing a Muslim cloth down your top during the day and leaving it in their bed?

That sounds just like my baby! He’s 9 months now and has been doing the 'fake' nighttime sleep of 40 minutes since he was 4 months. We’ve tried bedtime between 6:30 and 7:30 and avoiding naps after 4:30-5pm, but he still wakes up. He naps well during the day—two naps of 40 minutes to 1.5 hours—but at night he’s up every two hours, whether in his next-to-me cot or co-sleeping.
It’s tough, but I think it improves with age as they grow through leaps and milestones.

We gently sleep-trained our first, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. It does get better! Maybe try taking turns with your partner for rest. Hang in there, mama—you’re doing great!

we can try sleeping with her comforter and see if that works!
