Hi,
My son is 16 months old, and has been sleeping pretty well since he turned 1, and started in full-time childcare. However, I think now we're getting into another sleep regression - he's consistently waking at 3/4am and really struggling to go down again at all. I think this is pretty typical at this age, he's definitely going through lots of cognitive development and testing boundaries.
I'm not sure whether to try and ride this out, or just face the inevitable and try dropping his second nap to see if it helps? He still has 2 naps most days, and just the 1 on his nursery days, twice a week. But I wasn't sure if he was ready for this yet (I'm not ready!) as he generally doesn't fight these naps, and I have to wake him most of the time after 1hr - 1 hr 15.
I should say that we've had two significant sleep regressions before now, and neither got better on their own - both got worse over 6 weeks until we changed something significant (moved him into his own room, and weaning him off his night bottles), and the only obvious thing to change at this point is the nap schedule. On the other hand, I'm worried about making things worse if he's not ready and will get overtired (particularly if he's been awake since 3am).
Would love to hear other people's experience of sleep problems at this age, and any tips 😩
