That'll serve them well when they're older (willfulness)

To parents of older kids/adults,

Does this sentiment play out to be true? I'm talking about those kids with big personalities who are a bit more hard work (ND or NT) under 6yos who are for example:

*strong willed
*defiant
*answer back
*big tantrums when they don't get their own way
*stubborn
*determined to be in charge
*do things on their own terms

People often say these traits will serve them well but do they in reality?

Has anyone had experience of the 'difficult' one growing up to be entirely different as they grow older or indeed successful? This is assuming they have stable home life and good modelling on self regulation?

I'm genuinely curious 🥴

I’ve never heard anyone suggest tantrums are an indicator of future greatness.

I’m not sure you can generalise about the rest - all of these things could either indicate a strong and determined personality, or someone who’ll get into a world of trouble because they lack empathy and self control - or very possibly nothing at all, as many kids happily grow out of tantrums and an inability to co-operate with others

They are divorces waiting to happen in my experience.

Mine are still young but I'm going to follow this with interest. I suppose its how you frame it - some of those qualities could be described as being assertive or having determination, so I understand your point. I'm quite passive and avoid confrontation, however both of mine are very willing to stand up for themselves. Which is no bad thing when done in an appropriate way, but is very tiring on a day to day basis when I just want them to do what I ask.

DD was described by her infant school teachers as a ‘natural leader’ with many of the above characteristics. As an adult she has a leadership position which she enjoys and is successful in.

Thanks I should edit to include empathy and bags of charm...but also feisty firey personality with strong emotions and beats to their own drum.
