Am I being unreasonable?

I had my baby in June 2024 and ever since then, bearing in mind that my baby is now nearly 7 months old, my partners dad has visited EVERY NIGHT except from 2 nights where my partner works late or they have been away on holiday but then even at that, he wants a video call with him. He’s 70 years old and says that he has to see him in case he doesn’t wake up the next morning (due to his age).

I have tried to speak to my partner about this but keeps saying that he’s only in 10 mins or he’s only in half an hour. I just want to have time with the 3 of us with no visitors. My partner also gets on at me because we spent Christmas Day with my family and NYE because we had a party.

what do you think? Am I being unreasonable here?

Every night - no, YANBU. That would drive me insane. You are entitled to some privacy, some personal time. How can you ever develop a normal family life? His demand for video calls is just plain intrusive.

I'd invite your FIL to supper two evenings a week, and then arrange for you, your partner and child to see friends or go to your family on other evenings. Gradually wean your FIL off his demands for access.

Goodness NO this is excessive and absolutely unacceptable behaviour!!!
Put your foot down and say NO - one visit a week only.
I don't know if anyone at all in my very wide circle of friends and family who would put up with this for one month let alone 7.
