Gap between c sections

I have a DS who is 9 months and I can’t wait to TTC number 2. I had a section for DS and the surgeons advised anything from 1 to 2 years to try for a second. I’m curious what gap people have left between babies? I’m 36 this year and it took a while to conceive DS so I’m nervous about waiting too long.

we started when baby was almost one, took 3 months to conceive then we lost the baby at 12 weeks, tried straight away but took another 3 months to conceive.

baby was born when toddler was 2years 2 months. No issues with pregnancy or c section scar. Tried for a vbac but ended up with another section. Went in through same scar and so far all seems good with it although I do have a c section "shelf" this time whereas I didn't last time.

No one told me about waiting post cs. I have a 20 month gap. Tried for a Vbac 2nd time round but ended up with another emcs. Scar ruptured in theatre - I lost quite a lot of blood but ultimately it was all ok. I love the age gap we have but with hindsight would have waited a bit longer to give my body more time to heal.

The guidelines say 18m to allow the scar to heal in the uterus. The main risk is weakness in the scar and rupture during later pregnancy or labour.

I was 38 when I had my first and only kid via CS. I saw a gynae consultant for a separate issue, six months after birth. They told me to start trying if I wanted another immediately. I was super knackered at that stage. So the thought of having another so soon and that being advised by the gynae really surprised me!

When I asked about the 18m wait, she told me my age outweighed the risk of rupture. So I imagine the same would fe for you if you take time to conceive? She also said it would be 18m by the time I birthed anyway, so there’s nothing stopping me.

I was still hormonal and exhausted at the time, so I came home and cried at the thought of another so soon. I came on here to ask about it and had the usual snarky unhelpful mumsnet comments about being an older mother and that’s what I get.

OP, I wish I had your energy. I’m 18 months on, would really like to, but I’m not there yet... best of luck to you!!

I'll be 3.5 years between sections , I was told 18 months but the stories of scars rupturing kind of put me off for a while

2y 2w between 1 and 2
360 days between 2 and 3

No issues at all.

Two years and then another four years between my three csections. Between the first and second there was a gap of exactly two years. My C-section was brought forward to 35 weeks because DS was massive and they were concerned about my scar. That might be an unusual situation though as he was 11lb 13 at 35 weeks.

We waited 2 years to start trying again, but that's more because I wanted firstborn out of nappies and pushchairs when 2nd came along than waiting between sections.

15 month gap between sections, so pregnant after 6 months. We hadn't planned another, but nothing was said about the gap and all went well. They did offer a tubal ligation during the second section though, which I heartily agreed to. (3 children total.)

CrotchetyQuaver · 01/01/2025 10:26

13 months and 5 days between them, there was also an ectopic pregnancy/surgery to remove a fallopian tube 14 months before the first CS. 30 years ago.

@Thehaberdasher i know I only feel like this because DS is a fantastic sleeper and has slept through since 6 weeks. DH is an only child and hates it so I definitely want him to have a sibling if we can.

I got pregnant again when my DS was 12 months. I'm 32 weeks now and ready to have my second elective. Have had no one say anything to me

lorisparkle · 01/01/2025 13:13

I was not told about any gaps between c-sections so had 21 months between my first two c-sections and 27 months between my second and third c-sections.

terriblyangryattimes · 01/01/2025 13:29

20 months between my two (planned) C sections. No issues at all.

Grrrrrrrrr8 · 01/01/2025 14:40

I was told to wait 18 months before conceiving again. I, very luckily, got pregnant first month of trying for DC2 so babies born almost 2y 2m apart. Had a VBAC second time though.
