Baby crying in car seat

Hi!

For the past 3 weeks, my baby (12 weeks) has been crying non-stop in the car, whether it's a 5 min or 20 min journey. I've tried soothing music, happy music, white noise, no music and just taking and singing to him, dangling toys, everything and nothing seems to work.

Any tips or help?

Thanks!

Might not be this but my baby got like this, he's on the taller side and I didn't release it was time to take the newborn insert out. He was much more comfortable and happier after removing it

Thank you, but I've tried that too! He's just on the threshold of being tall enough so I've taken the insert out, but no joy 😢

Both my babies did this. It was horrible but they grew out of it, eventually. Both responded well to me singing to them, once they hit about 5 months? At 12 weeks though, they would scream for entire journeys. It's horrible! But you can't let it stop you from going out. It's hard for you but it doesn't traumatise them.

Dd hated the car too until one day she didn't. I have seen someone mention before to loosen the nappy a little as it can be a bit tight in that position?

I think the main focus is to keep yourself calm so put on your favourite music etc.

I'll keep trying that, thank you!
Hard to want to go out when the journey can be so so difficult but trying not to let it put me off or make me anxious

Great suggestion! Thank you so much. I'll give loosening the nappy a go 😀

Ah sorry not much help. Not long term solution but do you know The Happy Song by Imogen Heap? Works like a charm every time my DS gets upset and I find myself using it frequently in the car when there's little else I can do to help x

Mine did it and grew out of it. Having a more upright seat when he grew a bit bigger helped as well

Have you tried the mirror things that strap to the headrest above the baby? Dd lived pulling faces at herself. I also found things like the baby mozart stuff on an iPad (on the headrest mount) worked wonders at distracting her. Had music but also shapes that bounced around the screen.

Does he cry without being able to be comforted in the evenings or any other times?
Our DD did this around the same time and also started crying lots in the evenings, at 3 months got diagnosed with silent reflux and was like a different baby on medication, I think the car seat position made it particularly uncomfortable for her.

Mine was exactly the same. Unfortunately my son continued like this until he was a year and we could forward face him. He would cry until he threw up. It was very stressful. The only thing that helped a little was placing him in the front passenger seat until we could forward face. Then we weaned him to the back. He's now 3 and hates the front.
