4 month old not holding head up

My 4 month old does tummy time each day, sometimes for longer periods than other days depending on his mood. He is still not lifting his head, instead he kicks a lot and tries to launch himself over the pillow. I prop his elbows underneath him but he still tends to just rest his head on the pillow. Even with me dangling toys and getting at eye level with him he doesn't seem to have an interest in lifting his head. His head control seems to be good in other situations though as we use the carrier a lot and when I sit him on my lap he moves his head to look around. Should I be concerned? Any tips?

Please don't be concerned! They are only 4 months and still developing. Is this your first baby? This could explain why you are overly worried. I was like this with my first and it can be really scary to always second guess their development when in reality they are doing just fine and the fact that your seeking answers and are worried shows how caring you are. It sounds like you are doing a great job with your baby! well done 💐

Our now 5 month baby was like this. It didn’t change till they started rolling over and now getting much better! So much change in a short little time!

Yes I'm a first time Mum :) thank you for the reassurance. I think I'm just a bit worried because others of the same age at baby groups are a bit further ahead it seems. But I know not to compare as hard as it is sometimes! Thanks for taking the time to reply
