Co-parenting upset from a 10 year old

My son is 10, for the past 4 years he has consistently seen his dad every 2nd weekend.
Before that, I fought a lot to get his dad to see him and be consistent, which affected my mental health (along with his emotional and controlling abuse to me) and I of course wanted to protect my son from getting hurt.
Well he is 10 now and is constantly asking to see his dad more. He has spoken to his dad himself a few times and I have as well. His dad says he can't have him more due to work. My son is upset and is taking it out on me. I have explained the situation to him and it's unfortunately out of my hands... does anyone have any tips for me to support my son with this? (And probably myself too!) Thanks

Hi I went through similar and got all the shit from it. I found jiggling words around worked. Every time the kids asked to see him I would text and when he replied ‘no too busy’ etc I would say dad said no he can’t today he’s too busy, I shifted the blame back on him. If he ignored me I would just say he hasn’t texted back. I stopped using the word sorry because yes I was sorry but it wasn’t my fault and the kids changed towards me so much and seen that I tried but he didn’t want to know.

Why did you fight for him to see your son when he is abusive and controlling?
