DS1 with eczema - bathing DS2

DS1 is two and while his eczema is now gradually improving (fingers crossed) we’ve had a mad year and a half with it. Not sure exactly when it started but it was around when I used coconut oil to remove cradle cap and just got worse from there.

Now have DS2 and have been bathing him with water, I feel minded to continue with this and not introduce any products at all. Is this a bad idea? We use Oilatum bath additive on DS1.

Do you mean avoiding soap etc ? Or do you mean not using oilatum?
Personally I would only use water and an emollient if needed for washing little babies.

I didn't use toiletries either in my babies as we have a family history of reacting to many of them, especially Johnson's.

I think by not using any emollient, water could dry out the skin. I would be adding a little bit of moisturiser to the bath water at least…we just dissolve some epaderm into the bath water for my 1yr old who has eczema.

Just using water, not using anything. DS1 reacted to so much I was thinking it might be better.

That’s good advice, thanks

I never used emollient in water for babies. Oiled eel comes to mind 😂

I did however just use unscented mild bar soap from aldi, just on the botty area and in the neck folds and only a little. Right before lifting out so that they didn't sit in it.

Everywhere else was water only.
