So baby was born via c section and ended up in neonatal with low sats however he is being discharged today and done really well. they done a hearing test on him this is day 6 since he has been born and she said he passed the first test but not the second and referring him to audiologists does this mean he cannot hear.

No it doesn't - the test they do in hospital is just a screening and it's common for c section babies not to pass the screening due to fluid in their ears which isn't squeezed out in the same way as it would be during a vaginal delivery.

Mine was the same and he was referred to the audiologist which is an actually test. His hearing was/is fine. If there *is an issue with his hearing they will pick it up (and far earlier than it would otherwise have been spotted).

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

It’s not unusual for c-section babies to fail their initial hearing tests. This is because they have can some fluid in their ears that wasn’t squeezed out, as would have happened in a vaginal birth. So I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage 😊

As pps have said, this can happen with C-section babies. You'll get an appointment for the next few weeks to go for a full test if you've been discharged by then). They want babies to be asleep for it, just to warn you. I had to breastfeed Dc to keep her asleep while someone rummaged with her ears which was weird.

They waited, I fed some more. There was no pressure but I felt there was (new mum panic) so if you have the same, don't worry!

One of my twins failed both screenings both ears but passed the hearing test at audiology.

I fed him about ten mins before and he dozed off for the test, it wasn’t a problem. They pop some little sticky pads on their heads and it’s a short test.

He is 21 months now and his hearing is fine 😊
