Applying for primary schools- confused

This isn't rocket science but I am confused.
We are looking to move area and I'm just trying to work this all out as want to be moved before DS starts.

Ds is 2.5 will be 3 in June 2025. So do I need to apply in Jan 2026? Or Jan 2027? Or not even January at all!?

Online answers are confusing me. Any help would be appreciated. I don't know why I'm finding this so complicated 😕 having a stressful time and my brain has broken.

You'd need to apply by Jan 2026 at the latest. Schools around here start doing open days late October/November when the admission application process opens, so make sure you have time to visit some schools.

My daughter is 3 in March 2025, that reminds me how soon we'll have to apply for school too!

They start the September after they turn 4. So in your case September 2026. You need to get the application in by Jan 26 at latest. You’ll find out if you have a place mid April 26

Are you in Scotland?

They'll start reception sept 2026. The school portal for you will open September/october 2025 and close Jan 2026. Youll get the results of what school you got in April 2026
