dd2 is a very spirited and active little girl, a live wire at times. yesterday we had a particularly bad day; lots of tantrums/naughtiness on her part and i did not have much patience so there were lots of shouting/naughty step and being sent to her room.

i felt horrible and guilty about it last night and today i've tried to be much much calmer and shout less, praised her more etc.

we have lots of days like this, usually 1-2 bad days a week. do you think dd2 will get confused. i read somewhere that where a parent is not consistent and go from one extreme to the other, its very damaging for the child. am i subconsciously doing this to my child???

Ha, both of my kids (and probably most kids around the world) will be totally screwed up then. I think your children are probably more resilient than you think. They will survive. We can't shield them from all negative behaviour, how would they survive the real world?
