Plug socket covers

I bought these covers. My Toddler loves to play with the switches and occasionally puts things in the socket. I came across a random video and tiktok with a mum showing her nursery and she had the same covers and the comments were saying how its more of a hazard with the covers on as it can trip them if played with? Can anyone shed some light on this. I'm expecting my second baby so want to baby proof now especially but without spending a fortune on the boxes that cover the full socket. Thankyou

The reason they are so dangerous is because plugs in the uk only are live when all three pins are inside the socket. By using these covers what you have basically done is make it live, constantly. Uk sockets are actually very very safe so there is no need for these

They're ridiculous and unnecessary. They may actually compromise safety.

I recall one of the UK electrical safety bodies has said as much.

What they said. I had a couple of the box type ones over a few (dts liked to try to put keys in them!!) and put gaffer tape over a few.

Exactly that
They can stick their finger in the socket and it won't do anything

UK sockets are very safe. The only way to make them live is to stick something the right shape into the earth socket to open the shutter mechanism. Which is exactly what these covers do. They are positively dangerous - please bin them.

Uk sockets have their own inbuilt shutters. That opens once the top prong is inserted hence why it’s longer than the others. Now imagine your toddler pulls this off the wall (yes they can do that) then inserts it upside down so only the top prong is inserted..,,that sockets is now live with two exposed live openings..,toddler is now off to find something to put in those holes….
