Constipation

Hi guys,

I have a 6 week old baby.

We moved her from Aptamil to Cow and Gate, as the Aptamil was causing her a lot of wind and pain. However, she still barely poos. She hasn’t pooed since Sunday. The poo wasn’t hard, it had a peanut butter type consistency, and she did a couple of poos, but since then she has done nothing at all, just lots of wees.

How can we increase the amount of dirty nappies, and help ease her constipation? I know Cow and Gate do a Comfort and Constipation milk, but it says to consult a medical professional before using.

Can anyone advise?

I'd try a different brand first. Cow & Gate is made in the sane factory as Aptamil.

Thank you ☺️

I am seeing the Health Visitor soon so will definitely mention it to them too.

Definitely mention it to the HV but you don't need her permission to swap formulas Wink

Maybe try SMA Comfort or Hipp Comfort over the weekend and see if her symptoms improve.

I'd also have a read of this before you speak to her and see if any of the symptoms are similar Flowers

Thank you.

I don’t think it’s an allergy as she doesn’t have:

  • Skin reactions such as hives, eczema, redness, or itching.
  • Vomiting or diarrhoea.
  • She does the odd sneeze but not all the time.
  • She can be a bit fussy but she always wants to eat, never refuses food.

But thanks again for sending the list of symptoms ☺️

I have CMPA and I don't get all of those symptoms either. Most of the symptoms you mention are when you have an Ige allergy and it sounds as though your DD might have an non-Ige allergy?

I did see the health visitor today, and spoke to her about my concerns. She advised me that formula fed babies can go a few days without pooing, and when I described the usual appearance of her poos, she again assured me that they were normal for a formula fed baby. So at least that’s a load off my mind.

Thanks for the advice though! ☺️
