Moved my DS back to Stage 1 Swimming

My DS is 4 years old and we go swimming every Saturday & Sunday, its something we have both done together since he was 3. He also does swimming lessons and moved into Stage 2, three weeks ago.

The problem is he won't go in the lesson anymore. He tried the first one then starred crying 😢.

I believe the main reasons are, no toys in Stage 2, change of teacher and the other children seem to be 6+.

His old teacher (loves old teacher) doesn't have any classes in Stage 2 at the moment but does have a space in Stage 1.
So I made the decision to move my DS back to Stage 1 until the teacher has an opening in Stage 2.

I'm a bit gutted because he's a very confident in the water and it was great to see him complete Stage 1 at age 4.

I think its more about fun at this age, Stage 2 seems a big change.

Any thoughts on this strategy has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

i think you have done the right thing, just whatever keeps him in the water to learn a bit whilst having fun is fine

Yeah totally keep him in stage 1. He’ll still progress, and you can move him on when he’s more ready.

I did exactly the same thing with my oldest, he gained a lot of confidence redoing the course of lessons and was much happier when he tried the next stage again.
