DC and ‘The Authority Gap’?

Hello, MumsNetters -

I don’t usually post in this board. But I’ve read an article today by Mary Ann Sieghart, author of The Authority Gap that I hope will start a conversation. She is interested in where too many men’s awful behaviour comes from.

One sad statistic from her 2021 book The Authority Gap has stayed with me. Researching the book, she asked a number of British parents to estimate the IQs of their young DC. Parents estimated the IQ of boys to be 115 and the IQ of girls to be 107.

It is well known that except at the far extremes where boys are over-represented, there is no sex or gender difference in IQ distribution. Girls and women on average outperform boys from Reception through PG studies.

Where is this disparity coming from? How can we counter it? TIA for all replies

PS Sieghart’s results are sadly consistent with a number of older studies within the UK and around the world, in particular a 1998 study by Furnham and Glasson (sp?) on British parents were the estimates were 109 (boys) and 102 (girls).

FWIW anti-sexism was already something of a consideration in 1998, and the UK was somewhat more culturally homogeneous.
