Daughter struggling with underwear

My 7 year old daughter has suddenly started complaining about her pants getting "stuck in her bits" as she puts it. She struggles with dribbling after taking a pee- which we are currently awaiting an appointment for an ultrasound scan for. But along side this she has now started with this insistence that she feels so uncomfortable she keeps wanting to put tissue in her pants to stop them getting stuck in her bits. Has anyone else experienced this and found it was just a phase ? She's getting really upset about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Have you tried different shaped underwear? I have sometimes found that different cuts (the pants like shorts for example) can make a big difference. You sometimes need to buy them in the boys section - in fact boy cuts might be a bit looser round there.

Could you also try a cut down pantyliner (the thin ones rather than the sanitary towels) in her underwear? A friend did this for her daughter and it helped a lot.

I always buy my DD a size bigger than the rest of her clothes.

Sounds like they're just too small.

Try different styles and size up. The shorts ones might be better

How do you need advice for this?

Beware sharing people.

I'm uneasy about the descriptive nature of this post. But in case it's genuine, try the shorts style ones.

Do you think maybe she’s actually embarrassed about the leaking and is using the tissue for that but doesn’t want to say that? Maybe try some of the various period type underwear or even some light incontinence pads whilst you wait for the results of the tests. And obviously try different styles / sizes etc.

Onthesideofthespiders · 03/12/2024 08:10

Is she actually leaking? Or is she not wiping and it’s just residual? If she is having issues with things touching there, maybe she isn’t wiping properly.

I’m assuming you’ve tired to obvious solution of boy short style pants in a size bigger?

NewNameNoelle · 03/12/2024 08:12

We always go for a larger size on pants for our DC. And for us it’s worth paying more for thicker material and wider cut.

CherryBlossomFestival · 03/12/2024 09:25

Really thick cotton in a larger size may help - Boden are good for this, as they are generously cut and the material is thick enough not to scrunch up.

I got boxers from the boys section and made sure they were soft cotton - m&s have some particularly nice soft black ones in the school wear section.

Tessiebeare · 03/12/2024 11:35

Has she tried mini boden pants? Expensive but proper big pants in thick cotton so hopefully shouldn’t cause the same problems.

Could try just a thin always pantry liner in bigger pants. Make sure they’re not the scented ones. Xx

My daughter same age has mild incontinance issues and wears modi bodi period pants to help catch the dribbling. The smallest size in their teen range. They are a bit big but they work

GridlockonMain · 03/12/2024 12:04

It feels like there are a lot of things you could try here - a bigger size, a different style, pantyliners, etc. Just trial and error different options until something works?

I know I'm a couple months late but I was looking up the subject for a friend and saw your comment. Just wanted to say when I was 7 I had a "dribbling pee" sensation every time. I used to wipe and wipe and wipe but there was always more. BUT it cleared up within weeks.
As to the underwear I'd suggest boy pants which are more airy.
