Another toddler poo thread

Going a bit spare with poo witholding 2 year old. 3 in January.

We tried potty training about 3 months ago and he did fine for a few days then started getting very upset and witholding both pee and poo. So we went back to nappies thinking we’d try again in a few months. From that point on he switching from pooing every day to every 3 days, and started saying he was scared of pooing. He point blank refuses potty for both wee and poo having previously been decent at weeing on it now and then.

We started on some cosmocol two weeks ago and eventually had four days of poos every day. Then we ran out, short gap, he’s now back on it, yet hasn’t gone in 5 days. It’s very odd because before he was showing signs of needing to go but fighting it, whereas now he doesn’t appear at all bothered by it, despite surely being pretty uncomfortable by now. We’re persisting with 2-3 sachets of cosmocol a day, depending on what he’ll accept. Any other tips or experiences? Just wondering how much longer he can possibly hold out and if it’s doing him any damage holding on so long.

I’ve wondered whether another PT push over Xmas in case that might help resolve it, but he’s v reluctant. He’s starting a new nursery in Jan and I’m also early stages of pregnancy which I’m sure is a factor.
