Toddler inconsolable when waking up

DD is almost 2 and for the last week she’s started waking up absolutely inconsolable. Whether it’s from her afternoon nap, or when she wakes in the night in the morning, she absolutely cries her eyes out and can be screaming and crying and really difficult to settle. It seems to have come out of nowhere - her sleep hasn’t changed in any other way, she’s still having about an 1.5 hour afternoon nap and some nights can sleep from around 7:30pm - 6am.

If she wakes in the night we used to be able to settle her by giving her a small drink of milk, then she would go straight back to bed. But now she’s crying while drinking it and then won’t go back too sleep unless we bring her into our bed, even then she cries for at least 20 minutes while being cuddled.

It’s really upsetting because she can’t express what’s the matter and it’s so out of character for her. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? (She doesn’t seem to be poorly/teething or anything like that!)
