Possible night terrors? What is going on with my 4 yo.

So since starting reception in September my son has been having the same wakings almost every week but they seem to be getting progressively worse and more often.

It is always around 11.30pm-12.30pm and he will wake up at first crying and upset not making much sense just shouting my name. No matter how I react, if I do nothing but sit quietly with him, try redirect him to bed, take him downstairs, speak to him properly, acknowledge or don’t acknowledge what he says he ends up escalating worse and worse until he’s absolutely screaming at the top of his lungs, talking jibberish and not making much sense then swaying between that and being aware that I’m there.

He gets so angry that he’s kicking and screaming at me like a banshee at the top of his lungs and to be honest it really is starting to frighten me as he seems so out of control. He doesn’t have any memory of the start of the waking the next day but sometimes seems to remember bits from the end when he’s ended up waking himself up.

Does this sound like night terrors? I’m finding it so hard to remain calm when he’s screaming at me and kicking and hitting me telling me I’m nasty and to go away and leave, If I say okay I can leave you alone for a second if you need me to then he screams at me to not leave.

Im starting to absolutely dread night time because this is happening for an hour almost every single night.
