Looking for some advice on tantrums. My son is 2 yr 4 months and recently in the past 2 weeks his tantrums have gone crazy from nowhere it seems and he’s started lashing out and hitting and kicking which is not normal for him other than the rare occasion. I will add he is literally 90% lovely funny intelligent little boy but I think he’s going through some developmental changes / growth spurt / more testosterone or something because that 10% is extreme!
I’ve had a long think about what triggers the tantrums and I think they are all surrounding control for example - nappy change, putting coat on, getting in the car. I’m thinking of offering choices so he has control over this but doesn’t get to choose not to do it for example blue coat or brown coat? Mummy or daddy do your nappy?
The other issue I’m facing is that this is only happening to me at present never his dad or anyone else. I’ve got a lot on at the moment and have been working more and I’m finding when I pick him up from nursery he explodes as well crying and flailing about and I think it’s due to him getting overwhelmed because I wasn’t there and now I’m back and he doesn’t know how to react? Soon as we are home he’s literally fine again but getting him out of nursery in the car and home is hell right now.
I love him so much and he’s such a sweet little boy who does take himself off to calm and comes to say sorry, which is great for his age I think. But just after ways and tactics to help him
Through this phase.
