Transition to toddler bed (for potentially autistic toddler).

We have moved out DS to his new toddler bed and so far it’s not going well. He’s usually a great sleeper. He’d go down in the cot and get himself off to sleep even if it took and hour or two. But now he keeps running back to the living room and is ready to party. (We live in a flat so no danger of stairs). I’m thinking potentially a stair gate but he could probably climb over that. We’ve dropped his day nap, we keep putting him back to bed when he climbs out, one of us stays with him etc but it’s not working yet. Is this something that he’ll get used to? I’m worried it’ll be a battle every night. He’s waiting to be assessed for asd so I can understand the change may be very overwhelming. Any tips would be great and will this last forever? We have a 7 month old too and my partner does night shifts so I’m keen to get advice. Thanks I’m advance.

Would he like it if his bed was more cocooned? IKEA sell bed tents/canopies. Makes it more like a cosy den.

Oooh thanks that’s such a cute idea. I’ll look into it!

Yeh I'd make his room asnice place to be as possible. My son's toddler bed doesn't have a canopy but it's very cosy with all his teddies and he's allowed to listen to Yoto stories to fall asleep. If your son comes through to you everything has to be very boring. March him back to bed in a very silent boring manner. You might have to do it a lot initially but he'll soon realise it's nicer to stay in bed with teddies and Yoto stories on or whatever it is you choose to do.
