First post: Feeling numb

I've just collected my DD from nursery and was told that she had had an accident whic involved her falling head first into a water tray whilst reaching for something at the bottom. Her head was immersed in the water. They rushed to her and got her out as soon as possible. she only had a bump on her head which as already gone down. I just feel terrible and guilty as she only goes there so I can do some housework and shopping without all the hassle involved taking a 2 year old child.
Am I right to feel so awful as she's fine now? I feel physically sick.

The occaisional accident at nursery is inevitable and they have to give you a proper incident report. Unless it's happening a lot (although that might not be unusual for some very active kids who have a lot of accidents at home too) I wouldn't worry about it. DD has been at nursery for over 2 years part-time and we've had about half a dozen forms (nothing serious). But other kids in her set (boys usually!) seem to have accidents much more.

Of course it is very upsetting to think they have been hurt and you weren't there.

Its awful when something happens to your child when you have left them with someone else, but honestly, honestly, it is impossible to prevent many of the things that happen. Its important in a way that they learn from these experiences.

One way of looking at it is that if you had had her at home, and not too well supervised because you were trying to get stuff done around the house, would that be any better?

We are programmed to feel bad about these things. No harm done, I can empathise, my little girl was bitten on her first day at nursery, thus making me feel really bad about having sent there because its good for socialisation....
