4.5month old gentle sleep trainning

Hi, I know this is controversial and every parent have different preferences for their babies.
I wanted to know if there has been anyone who has successfully sleep trained their 4.5 month old??!
From what I have gathered my baby seems to be going through a regression which has been hell for the past 3 weeks. He is so agitated and grumpy all day. Fights being put to sleep etc...
I truly feel I need to start implementing some sort of gentle sleep training so he can get longer stretches of sleep at night which I can see he desperately needs.
We have a bedtime routine which we stick to and was successfully until about 3 weeks ago. He would sleep 5hrs, wake, feed then another 2/3hrs of sleep, wake feed and then maybe another hour of sleep. But now he is up almost every 45mins - 1.5hrs. He is EBF.
I'm desperate to hear from parents who have sleep trained at this age. Thanks

It’s too young in my opinion. Your baby is going through growth spurts and different stages and things change all the time. It’s just not possible to get a routine at this age. You just have to accept the bad nights and feel grateful for the good ones.

It is absolutely possible to get into a routine at this age if that’s what you want.

We did the pick up put down method and then moved to shhhh pat which has worked with all 3 of mine to teach them how to self soothe.

@SouthLondonMum22 that's great to hear it has worked well for you.
Could you tell me in detail what you did? Just taking tonight for example:
6pm: Bath, massage, change clothes, quick feed and then sleeping bag. Rocked to sleep. Then put in cot when asleep - roughly 6:45/7pm.
Baby has already woken up screaming twice so I've picked up, rocked and put down. But I've been doing this for the past 2/3 weeks.
Thank you

You could try shush pat. I found my baby started sleeping better once they learnt to settle to sleep in their cot (this wasn't for a few more months) but no harm in giving it a go if they aren't becoming too stressed by it

The four month regression is so hard so I sympathise. This article is quite helpful

I sleep trained all of mine, and I do get it, but the reason people say it is too young is simply because at around 6 months they develop object permanence.
Right now, if he can't see you, he thinks you have vanished. Once they have object permanence, they understand than when they can't see you, you still exist, and I found with all 3 of mine, that they did change around 6-7 months, and sleep training seemed to be more natural.

If he is waking every 45 minutes, that is a natural sleep cycle, you come into lighter sleep every 45 minutes, so if you can shh pat through that wake, then he will gradually learn to self settle.
