DS is 22 months old and I had a vague plan to give potty training a go this summer after he is 2, taking advantage of good weather (ha!) and minimal clothes etc. However, DS has started to really freak out whenever I take his nappy off to change it - he clutches himself as if he is afraid he is going to go to the loo without one and crys until the fresh one is in situ. The other day he also did wee on the floor after his bath when he was naked and was almost inconsolable despite lots of cuddles and reassurance that it was no problem.
I have had a couple of potties around the house for while just so he gets used to them but there is NO WAY he will sit on them, I tried a couple of times when he is fully clothed and was he wasn't and he refused point blank to sit, so I backed off. He does say 'poo' and clutches himself a couple of minutes before he goes, but then when I say in response 'are you going to do a poo/wee?' he says 'NO, NO' and runs! So I had concluded that whilst we are heading in the direction of readiness we are by no means there yet. I just don't want this nappy thing to turn into an issue for him before we have even begun. Any advice/experience from anyone gratefully received!
