Hi,

im a first time mum so not much experience with this. My baby is currently on day 5 of having conjunctivitis. I took him to the GP on day 2 and was given antibiotic drops which I’ve been using albeit it’s hard to get them directly into his eyes. It was initially only in 1 eye but has now spread to the other. He has woken up today and yesterday unable to open his eyes due to the puss. This evening his eyes look like they are getting worse. He has been so upset that he has thrown up which he has never done before. The GP said by day 5 it usually starts to clear but it’s not. He he also has a blocked nose and a cough. Should I take him to the walk in centre? Any advice appreciated.

Poor baby. I think it's quite normal for it to get worse by about day 5 and then should start getting better. But if your.m not sure take your baby to get checked again. At the end of the day that's what doctors and medical professionals are there for

Hi

thank you for your reply. I’ve been reading some horror stories about it causing permanent damage to the eye, I’ve never had it myself so I don’t know what is normal and what isn’t! I think I’ll see how he goes tomorrow and then decide x

This will sound odd but if you are breastfeeding try a few drips of breast milk in the eye a few times a day. My GP suggested this for my baby years ago when she had the same thing. Sorted it out in two and a half days! This was many years ago but hopefully info about it online to back up this odd sounding advice!

Same with the breast milk, that was only 12 years ago.
