6 month old feeding normally?

Firstly, I am aware that this is very much a Q for my HV. Unfortunately our HV services are so stretched that visits are being dropped, and I am moving house to a different area in two weeks so will raise it with our new HV if I still have concerns then. I just wanted some thoughts in the meantime.

My DD is 6 months. I have a 2.5yo DS who was big and hit his milestones super early, so development was never a concern at all. My DD by comparison is much more average in size and development and I am having to adjust my expectations for her and not worry when she's not doing things as early as he did/developing as quickly as he did. So maybe that's where my concerns here are coming from but I wanted to compare where she is at with her feeding with others' experiences.

She is showing no interest in solids at all, which I'm not too concerned about in itself as she is literally only just 6 months. However in addition to this, her breastfeeding is good but she has a couple of habits I (maybe incorrectly?) associate with newborns or young babies, such as shaking her head with her mouth open against the breast before finally latching, and also a new habit where she will be determined to unlatch and suck her fingers instead, even if I know that she is hungry. It really is a fight sometimes to stop her doing it! Are these habits normal for a breastfed baby at 6 months? I expected her to be "better" at breastfeeding by this point! I would say that these habits have started recently, not that she never grew out of them.

I wondered if this sounds normal - the lack of interests in solids and the breastfeeding habits? I hope I'm just worrying unnecessarily!

I would ask on a breast feeding facebook group. They will be way more knowledgable about bf than HV.

Is she gaining weight inline with her centile?

Is she teething?

How do you know she is hungry when you put her to the breast?

Has she always done this or is it recent?

My six month old is a bit like that with bfeeding- she is very easily distracted and mucks around during day feeds. E.g. starts blowing raspberries half way through. I'm not bothered about it. She feeds for hours at night to make up for it (without mucking around).

My 6 month old is on formula so not a straight comparison but she has also been particularly fussy in the last week or so on feeding- she's taking in an okay amount and plenty of wet nappies so I'm not too worried- I think that's the main thing really!

Shes also not too bothered with solids- we tried BLW but it's given me far too much stress so for now we're sticking to mashed up things. She will grab the spoon and put everything in her mouth but I think that's more to chew the spoon than because she wants the food on it to be honest.

I'm sure your baby is doing great !

I would say its normal for 6 months, all 3 of mine got a lot more fussy with feeding when they got older and more alert. Hungry but also distracted by sights and sounds around them, constantly coming off and mucking about. Took a lot longer to feed, which is counter-intuitive as they should also be more efficient at feeding.
