Very needy 6/7 year old - normal?

My 6 almost 7 year old (next month) is so needy for me. It’s been going on for a few months but it’s to the point where he doesn’t like me popping out, if I sit down he is ON ME for attention. He doesn’t stop talking to me, following me, wants to do every single thing with me. He doesn’t like doing things alone with his dad.

I feel like a terrible mum writing this but it’s making spending time with him quite painful.

I am a pretty present mum. I organise good days out, don’t spend loads of time on my phone in front of him and honestly the guilt I feel about not being able to give him a sibling (out of my control) forces me to basically also be a sibling too. I’m quite a good fun mum and I think he’s growing up securely.

he does clubs, sleepovers, stays at grand parents, has babysitters maybe once a month. I’ve not wrapped him up in cotton wool.

is this normal? I’m going crazy!

My youngest is like this (same age as yours) - she has been, always. It sounds pretty normal to me - I can't see any red flags in anything you say. I get that it feels claustrophobic... did anything happen in your lives around the time it started?
