Baby cries in sleep

My 8 week old newborn sometimes cries in their sleep and sounds really distressed with eyes shut but then often settles asleep after for a short while before starting up again.

we were picking her up every time she cried but now starting to realise she is still asleep.

ir sounds like a proper cry and I’m worried she’s really distressed or in pain or uncomfortable - is this normal??

Newborns are SO loud. Mine grunts and squeals and just generally makes lots of noises. Sometimes a low key, short lived cry too. If he's sleeping, don't pick him up.

I know a few people who moved babies to their own nursery at 6-12weeks even though the advice is to wait until 6 months as they couldn't sleep next to them! I'm now in the same boat, my baby is 11 weeks and sleeps 6 hours straight but some of those are hours are LOUD and we keep waking up. I don't actually have it in me to move him but it's so hard to explain to people that yeah, my baby is a great sleeper, but won't actually let US sleep.

It is normal! Mine did this, and would also laugh and smile in his sleep from a week old. I think it’s a positive sign of emotional development. My DC is 1 now and will still cry out when sleeping sometimes, it’s common for babies to get nightmares. Fascinating stuff!
