Laptop/tablet recommendations?

I'm considering getting some sort of device for 3 of my DC (DC4 is a baby). We're normally a fairly low-screen family. However, eldest now gets various bits of homework set online -you log in to find out the tasks (although she is told verbally in lessons too) and it's the only record of the weeks spellings etc. She's supposed to do some weekly stuff on Edshed too.

At the moment she uses my school laptop (I'm a teacher). But that's getting to be rather a pain as there's something every night. Her younger brothers also want to join in - they have some maths to do each week on doodle and will have spellingson Edshed from next September. So I ends up with the 3 kids queueing and me not having access to my markbook all evening!

I'm looking for something that is pretty basic. Just needs to be able to access online things - Edshed, Doodle, Duolingo. Eldest does type on a keyboard and uses Word/powerpoint (just for posters) occasionally, younger two don't.

Because we're not a technological family at all I have no idea what's good/available these days. I haven't bought a device aside from my phone (8 years old) in about 15 years. What do people use? If prefer something that can stand up rather than something kids do on their laps as I don't want to cause bad posture. Doesn't need amazing battery life as they would only be using it at the table and for only limited times.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Not got a specific budget as such, but also no magic money tree 😊

If you only want online stuff then chromebooks are a good cheap option, particularly to start with. They may not be what you want in secondary, but for purplemash and things that's perfect and quite cheap.
