i have to give a presentation tomorrow, and i really really dont want to, i feel sick seriously ill, just thinking about it.
i had a practise run yesterday with 3 friends, and couldnt do it in front of them, i dont know what i'm gonna do. also its meant to be between 5 and 10 mins long and it was 5min 20 secs. i really need to add to it because i know i'm gonna talk to fast, so will loose points fpr that let alone if its then too short.

anyone know where i can get a video showing gender discrimination in te early years? gan some time there?

hey, i cant help at all with your question but i'd just like to say best of luck.

i had a twenty minute seminar to give recently. it was actually ok in the end, got a 2.2 so not the best mark in the world. but when you are up there it goes really quickly.

best of luck!

Hey Good luck - I am trying to finish off some revision notes before exams in less than 2 weeks now !

Don't know whether this is any good - but shows how it still happens - in one of the world's biggest employers and might get some discussion going at the end? !

Walmart

You will be fine with the presentation - you have to do it and it will fly by once you are in there! Good luck again

dylsmum1998 · 24/04/2008 23:50

thanks guys
i know i'm not alone and that everyone has to do it, but that doesnt help the self pity/ dread much does it.
mama well done on getting a 2:2,
i'm aiming for a 3rd, anything but a fail, that said i'm in first year so marks dont count as long as i pass, must change that attitude before next year!!

Friday thanks for the video, not able to use it, but does highlight how gender discrimination happens. good luck with the wxams, how many do you hve?

i really wanted to use the clip off eastenders where the open mike night is on and poor bens face when phil told him he's a boy go upstairs he shouldnt enjoy things like the singing etc. really highlights what i'm saying even if not real life, but cant find it. nevermind i have found some more research to give me a little more waffle taking me to between 6 and 7 minutes, so as long as i remember to breath and speak slowly i should be ok onm time now

just think i'll be back on here tomorrow complaining about the assignemnet i need to finish by tuesday

Hey there.

I had to give a 15 min presentation today on gender stereotyping in the mass media.

It wasn't too bad!

If you think it would help you I can email you my slides...? Although there's a wad of notes to go with them that I don't have on this pc as I typed it out at uni.

I must look through the other handouts I got today & see if there's anything about gender discrimination, I don't think there is though!

If you want my slide (Not sure if they'll be good for you as it talks about how the mass media can influence gender stereotyping) just let me know & I'll email them

mamalovesmojitos · 25/04/2008 00:01

lol it never finishes, does it? i'm sitting up now doing an essay that was meant to be in last monday. lost 4% already. got about 2000 words to do by four tomorrow. eek! think it's gonna be a long night....

you're right just to get through it tomorrow. i'm in third year which is why i want to start bringing in the honours in preparation for fourth and final year!

you should get some sleep! just gonna post a thread to see is anyone else settling into writing....

WallOfSilence · 25/04/2008 00:06

I'm working mama... I have a 10,000 word dissertation due in next Thursday.... I've got about 4000 done so far & I know what else needs doing, it's just a matter of actually doing it!!

I have an exam on Monday, dissertation due on Thursday & that's me until May 14th when I have another exam...then I graduate!! woohoo!!

mamalovesmojitos · 25/04/2008 00:26

oh goodness wall! you're as bad as me.

i have a site diary in on tuesday week which consists of 9 essays of about 1500 words each. seperate to this essay. and a short one for monday.

i then start studying for my exams. aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

the end is in sight for you! well done. how long have you been studying?

i'm in my third full-time year. and it's too intensive!

dylsmum1998 · 25/04/2008 19:30

wallof thank you that was a very kind offer, unfortunately i had fallen asleep at the laptop so have only just found your messages.

i gave my presentation, it wasnt too bad (i dont think!!) i didnt forget anything, didnt speak too fast and didnt forget what i was meant to say. the tutor marking smiled at me a few times whilst i was doing it, so have decided to take that as a good sign. just have the wait for the marks now

mama i am starting to wonder how i'm going to manage when i get to thew third year. you have my sympathies can only imagine at the work you are trying too get through

how did you all get on with your work last night?

I'm in my third & final year of my degree. It's been full time too & very intensive.. at time I felt I couldn't go on, but I persevered & thank god I did. But I studied for 4 years before that too, feels like I've been doing it forever

I can't wait to graduate & never look at another text book again for as long as I live!!

I guess I'm lucky in one respect as I was offered a job about 2 months ago & I have been doing it part time until I hand this dissertation in & then full time starting next week!!

WallOfSilence · 25/04/2008 20:35

Hey dylsmum, I'm glad the presentation went well

dylsmum1998 · 25/04/2008 21:33

what job were you offered, is it the job you were studying for, or did you change your mind by the time you get to the end of the course?

well done on the job wall!!

hi dylsmum. wrote till 3.30am. logged on to mn at one stage and the 'last fifteen mins' threads were completely empty.

got the essay in today thank god. so glad the presentation went well! it's so much more of a personal achievement than an essay.

dylsmum1998 · 25/04/2008 22:24

it is such a releif to have done it. i have never been able to stand up in front of people and speak, i absolutely hate anything so public much prefer informal chats. i'm the sort of person that goes red if i speak aloud in class. althought have noticed i have got a LOT better since starting in sept.

well done on getting your essay done.

i'm taking tonight off (I'm shattered) will be back doing some more work tomorrow, i know if i was to start on some work now i will wake up, which in one way is good but i wanna spend some time with the children tomorrow without being too tired to fully enjoy them

Yes, it's a journalism degree I am doing & I got a job as a reporter for a small local paper. It's hardly reaching for the clouds, but it's a start now when the children are still so young.

I'm about to start for the day now & do a few more words. Have had good feedback from my uni lecturer so I feel a bit more confident now.

dylsmum1998 · 26/04/2008 23:32

thats great, a job for small paper may not be the most glamorous, but its a start- onwards and upwards!! its great that you have a job already well done you

good luck on your dissertation hope you got plenty done today
