How do you know if it’s a ‘social smile’ or just wind passing through?!

As in the title really. Did DS (5w1d) just smile at me smiling at him for the first time, or did he just happen to make eye contact as I was winding him after a feed, while doing a reflex smile?!

You’ll be so close to a real smile if it isn’t already! I knew with mine as she would look at things and smile rather than glazing over and grimacing for a fart. For example when changing her nappy or talking to her in the morning when she first woke up I’d get a gummy grin. She also loooved dangly things (lol) so our dangly light fitting I’d gently push and she’d crack a smile as it swung and a dangly house plant too. Perhaps start to show him things around the house to see what he fixes on and just wait there for a bit talking to him about it and do big over the top smiles and expressions when changing his nappy. It won’t be long and he’ll respond with smiles!

Ah thank you those are great tips! I will do all that! Currently he loves looking at the windows and ceilings, anywhere where there is a light/dark contrast.
