Newborn and dummy

Hi,

My little girl is 3 weeks old, I've been offering her a dummy since day 2. She is breastfed. I've tried - Nanobebe, Tommee Tippee, BIBS and MAM all the smallest newborn ones and she won't take them.

She sycked the Tommee Tippee and the Nanobebe dummies a couple of times but no more than for a minute before spitting it out.

Any tips?
I could really do with her taking a dummy for comfort as she currently uses my boob for that and it's becoming painful!

Thanks 😄

She's very little. Keep trying but some babies never like a dummy.

Honestly no advice but solidarity. We have spent hundreds on dummy’s from the very cheapest to the most expensive, every brand you can think of we have tried, my daughter is 6 months old now and still has never taken a single one😂 I think some babies just don’t like them! X

Ah, my children all refused a dummy no matter how I tried! Some babies just don't like them.

My daughter is three months old and has never taken to a dummy. Even during our stay in the hospital when she was born and the midwife’s tried getting me to give her a dummy she wouldn’t take it. She’s found comfort in sucking on her thumb and hands. She’ll take one when she’s gotten herself worked up which is a very rare occasion & once she’s calmed down she instantly spits it out. We carry one with us everywhere we go just incase she decides one day to take too it.

My eldest was the only one who would take a dummy and only the cherry ones (do they even sell those anymore?).

At 3 weeks, realistically she’s feeding because that’s what they do, not because she needs a dummy. You’re nearly through the painful bit though. It got a lot easier from 4 weeks.

One thing with my dd that I found helpful was holding her as if I was feeding her, with the dummy in her mouth, pressed against me. It mimicked breastfeeding and it didn’t fall out as easily.
