Hi,

DC is 5. He's bright and full of energy and generally gets on well with other kids. We have another child a 1 year old. They get on pretty well.

I've noticed recently he complains a lot.For context he had been quite ill for a week and handled that well.

It's not fair you didn't bring the car to collect me and its raining! Now we're late because of you (when we werent late). Or another time .. aw I wanted daddy to pick me up and walk!

Why does Charlie have computer games and I don't. I didn't want football today (when he's the one who begged me to join a month ago and said he loves it). Its not fair my football boots are old (they're not old just not new) etc..

We never previously had this problem. I'm not expecting grateful at 5 but the constant complaining leaves me wondering how to respond!

Any tips please?

I would brush over it as much as possible, don't give it any attention. Be enthusiastic and engage in conversation when he has something a bit more positive to say.

When he has a legitimate complaint, listen and sympathise, work together to find a solution.
