Toddlers in food part of trolly

I don't understand why parents of toddlers and young children think it's acceptable to allow their offspring to stand/sit in the food area of a trolly . This is where my food goes, and I really don't want to put my food where dirty little shoes have been, it's disgusting, you wouldn't put your shopping loose on a dirty pavement so why on earth allow shoes in a trolly, what if they've stood in dog poo?. Put your kids in the seat part, or if there to big ,make them walk and control them.

If the trolleys are that dirty, why do people want to put the toddler in with the rat urine etc?

Because toddlers, like the rest of the human race, walk on pavements, which are not known for their sterility.

I personally do this.

My reasoning? I have 2 children under 3 and the Aldi I shop at do not have double seat trolleys. So I put my youngest in the seat and my eldest will sit in the main part. He could walk but then he would be running off and to be honest, I try to make my food shop as stress free as possible.

I've never noticed anyone judging me for it to be honest, maybe they do. But I couldn't care less.

You should see how your food is transported and stored in the shop until it’s on the floor.

If you don't want to chase a toddler around the shop put them in the child seat of the trolley where they are meant to sit.

That is designed for older babies not toddlers. Most 2 year olds wouldn’t comfortably go in that seat.

I don’t see what the problem is. Surely you don’t eat packets and wash any loose fruit and veg before cooking.

HS1990 · 09/10/2024 12:20

It's stressful shopping with kids. That's why. Sometimes you just need to contain them and they do grow out of the seat eventually

Because parents don't think children can walk and don't want the hassle same as why they pull kids on scooters even if they are 8.
When the fall out and get concussion it will be the supermarkets fault.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2024 12:48

It is quite dangerous but that’s my only concern. Supermarkets have tiny trolleys for young children to push where we are which seems to have pretty much solved the problem.

It’s so weird how many people are adamant they will fall out. They sit down!

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2024 12:55

I’ve seen several teetering on the edge at the checkout when parents are occupied and not watching. Have intervened a couple of times.

Have you ever used these little trolleys with toddlers. I made the mistake of trying this with my 2 year old twins. Who both ran in opposite directions with them and did a supermarket sweep. Myself and a shop assistant had to grab them and put all the stuff back on the shelves. So never actually never got any shopping done.... lesson learnt and they are going in the trolley from now on!
