Toddlers in food part of trolly

I don't understand why parents of toddlers and young children think it's acceptable to allow their offspring to stand/sit in the food area of a trolly . This is where my food goes, and I really don't want to put my food where dirty little shoes have been, it's disgusting, you wouldn't put your shopping loose on a dirty pavement so why on earth allow shoes in a trolly, what if they've stood in dog poo?. Put your kids in the seat part, or if there to big ,make them walk and control them.

I'm assuming because it gets no less irritating when people continue to do it.

You should both probably watch your blood pressure and go and meditate or something if you get irritated by something so minor. You have to scroll anyway, it doesn't make much difference. 🤣

What gives you the idea that irritated means enraged to the point of raised blood pressure? That's a bizarrely hyperbolic interpretation

My Tesco have recently got rid of all their trolleys suitable for a newborn (with the reclined seat, and the ones that take a car seat). The only way I could shop over the summer was with him in a sling. I then realised at the checkout that with him in the sling that I couldn’t bend over and reach to the bottom of the trolley to get my shopping and put it on the belt! Solution…lifted my 5 year old in to the trolley and she got it out for me!! Hadn’t occurred to me about her dirty feet on the trolley tbh…maybe if Tesco had any kind of trolley suitable for a newborn it wouldn’t have happened. (And yes I have complained, 6 months on still no newborn trolleys)

Cosycover · 08/10/2024 18:51

The trolley will be much more mingin than a toddler.

Ffs. Honest to God. This is what affects people? Really? Get a grip!

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I didn't do it with any of my children because i didn't think it was particularly safe but if someone has decided they're fine with that risk, crack on. I don't eat packaging and wash any loose fruit and veg so I don't see the issue other than if the child fell - and that's a them problem.

HermoniePotter · 08/10/2024 18:59

My bags go in the trolley for scan and go, toddler DGC sits in seat of the trolley. All trolleys are probably minging which is why I wipe the handle and the seat before toddler DGC goes in it. The eldest DGC walks beside the trolley attached to me by a wrist strap because he’s a bolter and too big for a trolley seat.

BringTheWine · 08/10/2024 19:03

I did it as it meant I could get the shopping done quicker. My kids were cleaner than a shopping trolley....probably. 😂

Also, as mentioned earlier, warehouses and lorries used to transport food are hardly clean. It's best not to dwell on it.

This is such a non issue. If it gives the parent a bit of peace to do their shopping without having to chase a toddler round the shop then I’m all for it.

If you don't want to chase a toddler around the shop put them in the child seat of the trolley where they are meant to sit.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/10/2024 01:22

They're really not designed to be stable with a child in the main body of the trolley. Which is a nasty accident waiting to happen.

sorrythetruthhurts · 09/10/2024 01:44

They don't clean the trolleys. The second you put your hand on them it's going to be man pee, ball scratching, palm sweat you're touching that's transferred onto your packets anyway.

Does it bother you?

YES.

ichundich · 09/10/2024 03:38

I prefer it to dogs on chairs and tables in restaurants tbh. Plus most food is wrapped.

Neodymium · 09/10/2024 03:38

When I worked in a supermarket we would use a trolley to collect all the rubbish bags and take them to the bin outside.

suoermarkets are gross full of mice and cockroaches. Kids shoes are probably the cleanest thing in the trolley.

I never once saw the trolleys cleaned either

Sunplanner · 09/10/2024 05:05

It just feels like thoughtless behaviour and I'd be surprised and a bit disappointed to see anyone I know doing this (SEND aside of course).

MumChp · 09/10/2024 05:13

They are so dirty those trolleys that I wound give it any thoughts.

TheShellBeach · 09/10/2024 10:34

Why did you quote the whole OP?

@TheShellBeach why do you say this so often? 🤣

Because it's so fucking unnecessary, that's why.

Everyone is answering the OP. Nobody needs to quote it.
The quote function is for clarifying who you're replying to. Not for when you're simply commenting on the actual OP.

I thought that was obvious.

Freshersfluforyou · 08/10/2024 16:13

Why dont you use the seat on the trolly provided specifically for this

because my three year old is 97th percentile, and I am 9 months pregnant. I physically cannot lift her into the seat, she also doesn't fit anyway 🙄

Lefmry · 09/10/2024 11:26

Actually, this did used to bother me, until I had my eldest with significant additional needs and I thought you know what actually? Parents are just doing all they damn well can to get through the day and who am I to judge.

I always used to do this as it was so much quicker to get my shopping done. The trolleys aren't clean anyway.

BiggerThanJungle · 09/10/2024 11:35

It's not ideal of course, but I can't get too worked up about it. You could drive yourself mad thinking too deeply about things like this. A little while ago I was horrified to see someone emptying the bins in a supermarket carpark, and using a trolley to collect up the bin bags - I chose not to dwell on it too much... 😩

frockandcrocs · 09/10/2024 11:43

I once saw two trollies colliding around a corner, and the toddler in one flipped over and landed in his head, he had a bleed on the brain and was incredibly lucky that there happened to be a doctor shopping.

We found out that he was in still in hospital two weeks later, from a friend of a friend.

I don't particularly care for how dirty they are- kids will literally eat dirt, but it could be so dangerous.

TickingAlongNicely · 09/10/2024 11:46

If the trolleys are that dirty, why do people want to put the toddler in with the rat urine etc?

Because I never worried about it. Kids play outside and touch all sorts of things and are fine.

Do you eat the packets?

We all read the OP seconds before you quoted the whole thing again. 🙄
