Sudden, multiple tics

My 3 year old son has suddenly started with lots of different tics overnight. It's been going on a week now.

Hard blinking, facial grimacing, rubbing his mouth/ nose/ neck. Occasionally his foot 'twists' and his shoulder shrugs/ arm straightens. They happen all day but markedly increase when he isn't moving around (eg. watching tv, reading books or in the car).

Not sure what I am asking..? Maybe just experiences and advice. Reassurance. Don't know whether to involve the GP yet.

Keep a diary of them in case it keeps on. It's something to show to a doctor for future reference.

Has he been unwell recently? PANS PANDAS might be worth googling if so, seeing as they came on so suddenly.

@Numberninetynine yes, I did come across that but the tics are the only thing that fits the criteria. He has been acting more babyish, but I was putting that down to his 6mo old sibling's arrival.

Hi have you got any update as my son is the same age and is doing the same? X

Honeycomb245 · 08/12/2024 11:43

Hi @foreverhopeful1uk. Strangely the tics went away as quickly as they came (lasted about 2weeks). I still see a bit of hard blinking when they're very tired, but nothing like how it started. I do wonder if it was infection related...all very strange. I hope your little one has the same experience and it all settles down.

Thank you so much for replying. It's been just over 2 weeks since his sniffing started but less than a week for the other tics. He was sick before it all started so hoping this is the cause and he just needs to get over it fully perhaps? I'm still petrified x
