How do you apply for the universal 15 hours free childcare for a 3 year old? Or does the nursery apply for you? I can’t find a definite answer online, just going round in circles! Anyone done this and know? Thanks

You go on the government website and apply. Then you give a code to your nursery

Incorrect answer above.

No code or application is needed. The nursery just apply for universal hours for 3 year olds.

Our nursery asked us for the code, we went on the government website, got the code and provided it to the nursery, they did the rest.

Keep in mind the allowances recently changed so both previous answers may be correct. There might be a new system, your best bet is to speak to your chosen nursery, they'll likely know of any change in process.

No both answers are not correct. You're mixing funding types.

The code and the latest funding entitlement is for working parents, they need a code to prove they are eligible. This is childcare.

The universal 15 hours for all 3 and 4 year olds and has been around since probably you were a child. This is early education. No code is needed.
