Ibuprofen for my nearly one year old

My baby boy is teething and in pain. He's woken up crying so I gave him some liquid ibuprofen. I read the wrong dose and instead of giving him 2.5ml (the dose for 11 months) I gave him 5ml (the dose for 1years old) he turns 1 in two days time. Will he be ok? Do I need to take him to the out of hours doctor?

Not to worry, the dosages on the bottle are conservative guidelines and as he's almost 1, he should fall well within the guidelines if he's growing well and has no health issues.

Dosages of medication at this age are done by milligram of medication per kilogram of weight.

If you need your mind put at ease, you can go online for a dosage calculator for pediatric doses or if you know his weight you can let me know and I can tell you a safe dose so you know he hasn't had too much.

Thank you all, that's put my mind at rest. He hasn't been weighed for age but the last time he was 9.4kg. He's on the 75th percentile I think she said and he's hasn't got any health issues.

He'll be fine. 2 days isn't going to change anything so he's probably better having the 5ml instead of 2.5 anyway

He's about 10 kg maybe 12

I'm sure that's okay as a one-off.

If he’s nearly one it’s fine, the doses are below what could be an overdose so extra won’t hurt occasionally
