Absolutely no support

Hi all,
I'm really struggling. I have an 18 month old DS, father has never met him and doesn't pay maintenance. The only family I have is my mother and brother. My relationship with my mother is extremely toxic. My DS goes to nursery three days a week, but is sent home a lot due to illness. My role involves weekend work unfortunately. It was agreed that I would work every other Sunday. My mother has been looking after my son then, but it's an utter nightmare. She makes it clear she doesn't want to, plus her house is a mess due to hoarding. I really don't want to leave my job because it's the only emotional support I have in my life. I feel so trapped.

Sorry to hear about the lack of support that must be really tough. Do you have any friends with children a similar age you could share childcare with? Could you speak to your work about changing your hours?

It does sound hard.

How is your relationship with your brother?

Are there any childcare options on a Sunday, even a nanny if that’s affordable?

I would ask about flexible working but having worked in a 7 days a week business I know how unpopular it makes anyone if they ask to cut back on weekends. That would be my very last resort.

Have you tried to get CMS from your ex?

Yes, I was receiving CMS from my ex briefly, but that's stopped now that he's unemployed.

There are no childcare options that I've found in the area. Cash is very tight, so a nanny is sadly not an option.
