Pre Walker shoes

So I know there are two types of footwear we can choose from - suede leather, or socks with rubber soles.

which one for pre walker?

attached is a picture of her in rubber sole socks. Surely this can’t be good? She’s 12 months and has 11cm feet, this is her in the 6-12m size shoes. They just fall down, like the rubber is too heavy for the sock. Maybe she just has tiny feet 😅

she’s standing on her own without support and starting to try and take steps. We just need something with a bit more protection for the park really to tide us over until she’s confident walking.

so pretty sure leather is the way to go but just wondering what about when it’s wet outside?

Any advice appreciated!

Tbh if she's walking a bit holding your hands I would just get her some wee lightweight wellies for the park. The rest of the time leave her in socks or bare feet. But she needs something decent for toddling at the park going into winter.

@Yourethebeerthief that’s why I’m not sure what to get, as we’ve had her barefoot all summer, socks when she was tiny. Now it’s getting cooler and wetter she definitely needs something for the park! I thought some little wellies but with her just learning to walk I want sure if they would make her unstable. Definitely taking these socks back though!

Just normal shoes, if she is needing shoes to walk on at the park she doesn't need pre walkers, just well fitted shoes

We got the prewalker (I think that's what they were called) from Clarkes they were lovely and flexible and were worn until their feet got too big.

We put ours in Clarks pre-walker shoes for toddling about outside until they were walking independently. Well, DC2 actually also ended up wearing orthotic boots from the hospital for various reasons too but obviously that's unusual.

I'd say she's probably very close to walking independently so you're probably better off getting her fitted for a pair of first shoes

If not yet walking independently, nothing, just socks. Once independently walking, pre-walker shoes will the flexible sole (barefoot indoors). Definitely no wellies. Our nursery always put them in socks, then nappy bags, then another pair of socks for outside before they were walking.

Edited

People say this all the time on Mumsnet but the reality is that children who can walk while holding your hands need something on their feet outdoors in winter.

Barefoot or socks for most of the day indoors is fine, but a one year old toddler wants to explore the outdoors and needs decent shoes on while they're doing that.

Just in case anyone else is in a similar situation, we went with a pair of soft leather slip on shoes! Brand was Juicy Bumbles. They have been amazing, kept her feet dry even when crawling through muddy fields! Not been out in the rain or through puddles mind you but been perfect for what we needed. And basically bare foot! She’s only just started walking, took her time even though she seemed almost ready nearly 2 months ago so glad we didn’t get her any proper shoes or pre walker ones. Can’t recommend these enough.
