DS2 is 3 years 3 months old. I’d like some advice on whether we should get further support with his speech. I’ve asked his nursery and they’ve assessed him and said it’s borderline and it’s my decision on whether we should refer him for support.
He’s got good vocabulary and sentence structure, but while I can understand most of what he says, others can maybe understand only 50-75%, sometimes struggling to understand him at all if he’s super excited or tired. He struggles with a few sounds like ‘s’.
I’m not concerned about any other area of his development, he’s very sociable, confident, happy, been out of nappies for a year etc. But when I listen to others his age speaking he’s a ways off them (although def improving). Worth mentioning he’ll be starting school next September as a late summer born.
Is this normal and I should just let him develop in his own special way, or ask for more support? I have no idea what that support would look like.
