What is your 1 year old DD's favourite toy, ever?

I am starting to think about what to get my DD for her first birthday. We are quite 'selective' about toys, in so far as we don't have tons of them. DD has had a few, 'main' toys up until now that she has really enjoyed.

So I am looking for a toy that DD will enjoy for a good few months. Our birthday budget would probably be about £50.00.

Or did you guys go down the keep sake route for 1st b'day and get something like a set of books?

Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks!

I didn't get ds anything for his birthday He outgrew his carseat around then so I suppose technically I could say I got him a carseat

He is Jan so I get muddled between Christmas and birthday but from his adoring crowd of uncles, aunts and grandparents he got a toddle truck, ride on truck (both of which he loved, would say the ride on current fave still at 16 months), rocking horse and assortment of trucks and cars and shapesorters.

We gave DS a sand and water table for the garden. He's played with it loads - he's now coming up 2 and he's really getting in to it again since being able to play outside the last few weeks - definitely his favourite outdoor toy.

One of those toys that has 4 balls that you bang with a hammer through the hole and they drop down and miraculously 'pop'out.

Cheap as chips too !

Actually he loves pots and pans too

A plastic bucket to carry things round in (she's obsessed with bags and things to carry things in).

OP says b'day present, tho. Feel a bit mean giving a plastic bucket for b'day present but whatever...

Great ideas everyone! Am compiling a list now in case grandparents etc ask what she might like! It's great to hear the same things being recommended by different people - hopefully DD will love them too! I love the idea of the photo album - although they only look like they hold 5 pictures?

Cariboo - don't knock it - she loved it for months. She gets tons of stuff and the things she picks out just happen to be simple

My ds favourite was a swing. (Full size single frame from ELC, with an additional baby seat.) Replace the baby seat with the older child seat at 3 yrs and the present will last years!!
