a 5 year old boy turns up to school with his (quite short) hair in 'bunches' on top of his head.

What's your reaction?

I’d think, to myself, that he had been playing hairdressers before school but probably wouldn’t have any sort of ‘reaction’. Kids do odd things sometimes and it’s easier not to argue with them when you’re already in a rush to get to school- my 3YO DS wore a headband to school nursery for a bit because he wanted to copy his sister, I just let him crack on and then he decided he hates headbands now 🤷‍♀️

I would run around in a circle going 'we all need to escape and go into hiding in case it's contagious'

Literally no reaction at all. I've taught plenty of 5 year olds and stuff like that is just an average Thursday.

i would delight in the self confidence of a five year old. I spend far too much time worrying what others think so hope they can be like that for as long as possible.

I have a 5 year old and some of the boys in his class wear their hair up.

Fab thanks all! Just genuinely curious on getting a wider viewpoint. I was wondering if I'm in a bubble where stuff like this is either ignored (i.e. standard day at the primary gates, nothing to write home about) or celebrated (yay for self confidence as someone mentioned) or if those reactions were more standard elsewhere.

He got fewer looks than when he wears his rainbow, leopard print, teddy bear hoody 😂 definitely does not get his sense of style from me, I'm perpetually trying to blend into the background. This kid stands out at every opportunity <3
