My son has had a bad cough witch we have all had in the house for nearly ten days with a fluctuating temperature the highest it has been is 38 I have taken him to the doctors twice and they refuse to give me anti biotic he responds well to the calpol and the temperature comes down and he is well in himself but I have severe health anxiety and the on going temperature is making me a nervous wreck can children have a temperature for this long is it just a bad virus that is taking time to clear up

My DD has had that a few times. Sometimes its a chest infection but the kind that doesn't respond to antibiotics so we've just waited it out. 38 isn't too high so if he's eating and drinking ok then just keep an eye for a day or so and go back if it starts getting higher or worse.

Yes we've had viruses where the temp has lasted that long. As long as he seems OK in himself and not getting worse I wouldn't worry

Don't worry. That sounds normal.
They can have a temperature for quite a while.
38° isn't very high anyway.

How old is he?

ella1998xx · 24/09/2024 20:49

He is 4 , thank you all for replying it's been really reassuring we have all had the same cough virus thing but I'm not used to him having a temperature for this long before he's only ever had one for a day or so ... also my first child so it's good to just get advice
