3yo hates nursery

Hi everyone,

wondering if anyone has advice? My 3 year old little girl has recently started nursery, she absolutely hates going and cries every morning and all day whilst she’s there. She hasn’t been eating anything whilst she’s there as she said ‘she wants to eat lunch at home with me’. It absolutely breaks my heart dropping her off so upset, and hearing how upset she gets throughout the day.
does anyone have any tips on how I can get her to like going? She only goes 2 days per week, so I don’t want to drop her hours. She’s very shy and timid so I think eventually nursery will be beneficial for her.

Oh that's so tough.
How long has she been going? I'd expect it to take a month or two for her to settle in if she's only going twice a week.
If it's longer than that then you might want to look at childminders as an alternative? Nursery doesn't suit every child and she might be happier in a smaller setting with more 1:1 attention

I was a nursery worker - before changing to be a nanny; can I ask a few questions -:

How many days does she go?
What hours?
Does she take a comforter / you?
Does she have a key person?
Did she have a settling in period?

Honestly, I wouldn't, she's too little.

If at all possible I'd keep her at home a bit longer if you financially can, your little one is being clear about what she wants.

Is there any way she can swap to half days whilst she gets used to it? If she did 4 half days? I find that children who come more frequently settle quicker and coming for a half day is less time to miss you and easier for the nursery staff to get in some positive associations.
did she have settling in sessions?
