Claiming benefits

I've been living overseas for almost 7 years, I've found myself pregnant and my 'partner' has decided he doesn't want to support me so I have no option now but to return to the UK. (I'm unable to stay in this country without a visa and im not eligible for benefits). My question is, when I return, I have no home to go back to, only friends to stay at for a few weeks. Will I be able to claim any benefits to help me get back on my feet and when the baby arrives, what will I be able to claim?
Thanks for any help :)

You may struggle to claim benefits initially. The DWP tends to refuse claims from returning British citizens until they've been back in the UK for at least three months. It can be possible to persuade them to shorten this if you can show clear evidence of intent to make the UK your home from now on (work, housing etc). Your best bet would be to talk to citizens advice about your options
