If you breastfed for a long time

What were your periods like when you stopped? Just stopped feeding my almost four year old. Had periods since she was six months old but my first period since stopping breastfeeding has been horrifically heavy. Is this normal? I can’t find much about this online.

This happened to me! My youngest was around 2.5 when I stopped. I had periods from 12 weeks, but they got so much heavier for a while after I finished.
they’ve settled down now.
I am old - so wonder if I went straight into peri symptoms.

Yeah that's similar to my experience I think it was just hormones rebalancing. It all settled down after about the third month once I'd finally stopped making milk (8 years BF two children)

Yep, mine went really heavy then almost non-existent then back to normal

Yup mine was scarily heavy first or maybe even second period as they didn’t come back until child (still BFing at the time) was closer to 2 years. But I’m sure I actually had to go to hospital one of the times and got tranexamic acid…

So I breastfed until one and a half, and my periods are very different to pre baby (although I assume that is due to the pregnancy generally rather than the feeding, as my periods came back from about 6 months post birth even though I was still breastfeeding.)

Anyway my periods are really heavy for the first day now and over in half the time they used to me. It's a mixed blessing but I have to RUN to a bathroom when I feel it start. It's been years, they have stayed heavy.

Yep mine was awful after 3 years but settled :)

The first was awful after both kids, then went back to normal. Exactly the same as pre kids, same length/heaviness etc. until menopause hit.

Thanks everyone, it’s reassuring to hear that others have experienced the same and that it settles down again!
