DS started nursery about 8/9months old and found drop offs hard for about a month - confidently going ever since.
Started a new preschool 2 weeks ago and drop offs are sad, clinging to me affairs but they also worryingly say he cries at intervals through the day.
Now he's started crying at activities he's been doing fine without me and I had to take him from the pool side early today as was getting to upset (having gone in from thr room with window several times to reassure).

How can I help, what should I do?!

So far special time, speaking about fun things at the preschool, fun treats for afterwards and the hearts on hand.

Breaking me and now things he loved are sad too "I want to be with you Mummmmyyyyy"

Thanks wise ones

EYFS teacher here. That's so tough OP! But it will be okay. It hasn't been very long at all, and all those new people and routines will have him feeling very overwhelmed.
Just keep activities low key at the moment, give him plenty of time to adjust and just keep reiterating that you love him and will be there to pick him up.
Some children take a long time to adjust to pre-school/school and it isn't abnormal behaviour from what you've said so far.
Are the teachers being supportive?

Thank you for taking the time

Think teachers are supportive, it's just heartbreaking that things he was so confident in, now isn't

Going to try and have some special time bonding away after school tomorrow I think, fingers crossed we come out the other side quickly

Maybe try dialling back the activities a bit and have more unstructured time, we used to try to do something every day but soon reduced it to go with the flow on weekends to reduce the demand
