Side effects after nasal flu vaccine

Hi my 2 year old son had his nasal flu vaccination 2 days ago at 10.20 and this morning around 9am he was very clingy, wouldn’t stop whinging and almost fell asleep on the sofa. Didn’t even have breakfast. I took him upstairs and he fell asleep straight away, I didn’t even get a chance to give him
Calpol. I can feel he’s a bit warm but he’s asleep.

Is this normal after the vaccine?

The nurse at GP didn’t mention any side effects other than a runny nose for 24 hours which he didn’t have.

My guess is he probably just has a cold. There’s a lot going around. Neither of mine ever had any side effects in the many many years of having the nasal spray. But certainly if he is already fighting something, it may mean extra work for his immune system.

The nurse did say to us he may be irritable and tired for a few days though. Thankfully he's been fine.

I think its a live vaccine and I have had the flu jab and it knocked me out for about a week. All different I guess

This normal after any vaccine for anyone of any age. A vaccine is giving you a very small dose of the illness it is vaccinating you against to kickstart your body's defences against the disease when it comes across it. Different people have different responses but a reaction generally means your antibodies are getting themselves into gear enthusiastically.
